This quintessentially British tea is a black tea. The original recipe for this in-house blend from Tea2you simply calls for black tea with the addition of natural oil from the rind of bergamot orange grown in the Mediterranean region, a citrus fruit with the appearance and flavor somewhere between an orange and a lemon with a little grapefruit and lime thrown in.

Unlike orange pekoe (which is a tea grade named for the Dutch royal House of Orange-Nassau rather than the fruit or the color orange), Earl Grey's citrusy taste is due to the bergamot orange. Earl Grey tea is one of the most popular teas in the West. People say that the name of this tea came from “Charles , the 2nd Earl Grey and British Minister from 1830 to 1834.

It is great served hot or cold, and pairs well with food. That's why it is a favorite for afternoon tea and preferred by many tea drinkers throughout the world.
